As you could have read here, I love thrift shopping. There are, however, some exceptions that I will not purchase secondhand. Underwear is one of those exceptions. Next to the fact that I will always fully wear out all the underwear I buy, there is also the hygienic expect of it. So what comfortable and sustainable underwear options are there? I found that I love Organic Basics. Below you can read why.
Almost all clothing is produced in factories. However, there are significant differences between different companies. The factories Organic basics works with are all trusted certified partners with the same sustainable vision as them. This also ensures that there is no child labor or forced labor. The employees work in a safe environment and get decent wages. They continue to upgrade their factory to make their carbon footprint as small as possible. Their products are not produced in China but in different countries in Europe (Turkey, Portugal, Austria, Italy, and the UK).
All the fabric Organic Basics uses is picked based on the environmental footprint and lifetime durability. Only the most responsible produced fibers are chosen. This means natural, renewable, recycled, biodegradable, and or low-impact textiles only.
Only GOTS certified organic cotton is chosen for their garments. This type of cotton is produced without chemicals and is handpicked. The cotton Organic Basics uses is produced around the Aegean Sea in Greece and Turkey.
All fabric is Vegan approved by PETA. Meaning no animal products have been used to create their garments. There is, however, a small exception. That is the products made with recycled wool and cashmere. The raw materials for these products are not produced for Organic Basics but rather saved from landfills and given a new purpose.
Why I love them
First of all, when you receive an order from them, you notice that the package is fully reusable. The packaging is made of recycled paper and can be opened and closed so you can use it again. I love that they pay attention to these details and not just send their customer the products in the cheapest possible option.
I purchase 2 different types of bras. The first one is TENCEL™ Lite Bralette because I loved the dusty rose color. The second bra I purchased is the SilverTech™ Basic Bra because it had a racer-back. I love to wear this one. I have lots of shirts with a racer-back backside and with this bra, you won’t be able to see my bra which is great. It is a bit of a struggle to put on (more than the TENCEL™ Lite Bralette) and this might be even more so with bigger breasts than mine (I have B cups) but once you have them on they are so comfortable.
Both bras are very comfortable and I can easily run around the house all day while wearing them. These bras are also comfortable when you just want to lie on the couch all day while wearing them (equally important in my opinion).
I hope this post gives you the extra nudge in the right direction to try a bra from Organic Basics. I really like them and my next purchase with them will be a sports bra. I have read nice reviews about them and I would love to try one for running.
